VIII Bakony, Balaton-Uplands - VIII-8 House from Nyirád
VIII Catholic cemetery NAGy I5TVÁN HöSl H/10TT ftlltKFAJA Between the yards of Mindszentkálla and Szentgál a path leads to the cemetery at the centre of which stands a sandstone crucifix relocated from Ohid. The richly carved tombstones from Rezi and Csabrendek demonstrate the expertise of former stone carvers. Amongst the heart-shaped gravestones is one for parson Gábor Pogdán from Szentbékkála dating form 1832. There are carved stone crosses and wrought iron crosses from Kislőd forged by local smiths and are memorials to the German families who settled in the area during the 18th century. On the left-hand side of the graveyard memorial trees stand for the dead of World War I. Memory tree It became a tradition in the Balaton-Uplands to plant a tree in the cemetery or in the churchyard in memory of those who lost their lives in World War I and who have no known grave. The names of the deceased are painted on an enamelled, board nailed to a wooden post in front of the tree.
