3. THE MUSEUM VILLAGE

Behind the barn, on the grass of the orchard, there is a re­constructed apiary from Botpalád, built arcound 1850 (4—7). The walls of the square enclosure are of wooden frame-work plastered inside, the benches for the bee-hives are along these walls under a shingled roof. There was room for about 100—120 hives in such an apiary. Flowers with a sweet scent were planted in the centre to attract the bees — bluebells and peonies, ,,bee-herbs" („méhfű") as they were called. Bee-keeping brought profit to the owner not 50.
