SZULOVSZKY János: A társadalom realizált igényvilága a 19. század utolsó harmadában Magyarországon. Térképlapok egy kutatásból

Aspects of a research: About th pretension sphere realized in society during the last third of the 19th century in Hungary JÁNOS SZULOVSZKY The study gives an insight into a large scale analytical work elaborated on ground of some crafts (baker, plumber, carpenter) present in communities. The starting point of the research is the following: if a craft can be found permanently on a settlement, it means that there - resp. in sits sphere of influence - we can find a solvent economical, social or cultural demand for it. In an indirect way we can thus draw a map of a significant part of the mental structure, of the pretension sphere of society. This approach is naturally employable only for the disclosure of realized demands, i.e. for those which could be satisfied by a solvent demand. For a full-scale survey we need also the disclosure of further sources and the employment of other methods. Since the sources and possibilities of research are narrowed down regarding the previous periods, the value of this method is significantly increased. The basis of the research is constituted by the publication Directory of tradesmen and merchants of Hungary, compiled in 1892, containing not only the data of Hungary in the strict sense but also those of Croatia, attached to the Crown of Hungary for many centuries; it publishes the names of independent entrepreneurs within the branches of industry and commerce in alphabetical order of the communities. (The computerized data-processing can be connected to the Maplnfo software of geographic information system.)
