2006-ban találkoztam először az 1921-ben született Máté Máriával. Az idős asszony épp a mezőn szedett köménymagot szárította. 2010-ben kerestem fel újra, akkor mesélt hosszasan az életéről. A család megélhetéséhez több generáción keresztül távoli munkavállalás nyújtott segítséget: édesapja Amerikában próbált szerencsét, az ott szerzett pénzből földet vásároltak. Mári néni és hét testvére Temesváron helyezkedtek el, az akkor 13 éves lány egy idős asszonynál takarított. Mári néni és férje a helyi mintát követve visszatértek szülőfalujukba, ám a kollektív után mindhárom fiuk végleg Temesváron telepedett le. A házat az 1920-as években építették az apósáék, és a férje temesvári keresetét is erre fordították, ám Mári néni csak a sütőházat használja.
