Tanulmányok - SABJÁN TIBOR: Adatok a kályhásmesterségről I. (Völcsey Lajos, Dör)

In Dör well-to-do farmers had tiled stoves made for themselves. They placed their order with the potter in the summer so that it would be ready by winter. The favourite type whose lower part was angular and upper part cylindrical was called "rustic shouldered stove". (Picture 37.) In sum, we can state that the tile stoves with eyes made in Dör, just like earthenware vessels of the same origin, preserve several mediaeval features with their sparse ornamentation and simple technique of making, in contradiction with the stoves built in neighbouring areas. It is remarkable that red and black concave tiles have been made as late as the 20th century. Their presence is a rare archaism.
