V - „'Tis enough if it shines for me” - Epilogue (Mark Baczoni)
Epilogue Of this life I have done the round On foot I mostly trod the ground. On foot, no fuss At most, I took the omnibus. Seen a lot of fancy coaches, With shiny wheels, fiery torches, And 'pon my soul! I did not envy them at all. Never caring who was in 'em, Dandy men and painted women Who scorn and spurn Those walking 'pon the road they churn. If a coachman for some blue-blood Sprayed me, roadside, full of mud, I did not row To pass me by did him allow. For here and there upon my way A flower spread for me, so gay That picking it did satisfy my spirit. Of this life I have done the round It sometimes gave me, so I found A great excess; But when in need, did give far less. Of accolades I've had a dearth, Far beyond my actual worth Had these I sought, I'd have far more than I ought. Some may think me haughty, vain, Or even happy; then again, 'Happy' can be, For so many, jealousy.
