Hegyessy Gábor: Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén megye cincérfaunája (Budapest, 2013)

Summary

SUMMARY Long-horned beetles (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county (Northeast Hungary) by Gábor Hegyessy Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county has varied natural landscapes, including grasslands with dry, sandy, clayey or alkaline soils on the Great Hungarian Plain, riverine forests on the floodplains, warm, dry steppes at the foothills, as well as oak and beech forests in the mountains. The northern parts of the mountains are regarded as part of the Carpathian bioregion (Carpathicum) rather than the Pannonian bioregion (Pannonicum), to which in the largest parts of Hungary belongs. It is no wonder that two national parks in mountainous areas of Hungary were first established in this county. The Bükk National Park stretches over to the neighbouring Heves county, while the limit of the Aggtelek National Park is marked by the Slovak border. Our goal is to publish information we have collected about a significant element of the so-far known treasures of this varied region, the longhorned beetles (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), a family that includes a number of protected species. The biology of several longhorn species (among them many beetles that are important in terms of nature protection) is quite well-known. This publication provides a brief summary of their known distribution, and the characteristic habitats and biology of the larvae and the adults. The overview of scientific literature presents information from the county dating from 1875 to the present day. The geographical names published as localities appear with a code on the map using the UTM system, which divides Hungary into grids of 10 x 10km. A total of 1220 different localities of the so-far surveyed areas have been processed. There are only a few small regions where we have not had the opportunity to do research. It is mainly the northern and southern foreground of the Bükk and the area of the Borso- di-Mezőség where explorations are absolutely necessary. The data show that research activity in the small regions of the county was uneven. Some parts are better researched, others less so. Fewer data usually come from the hilly areas and the lowlands. Of the longhorns, 87 species in the Bodrogköz on the Great Hungarian Plain, 118 in the Aggtelek National Park, 133 in the part of the Bükk National Park in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, 164 in the Zemplén Hills and 110 species in the hilly region between the Sajó and the Hernád rivers, including the areas of Cserehát, the Putnok Hills and the Rudabánya Hills, are known. At present the number of longhorn species known from Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county totals 184, which is significant (88%) compared with the 210 species represented in the whole of Hungary. 145
