SUMMARY

The biography of the eminent 18th century Hungarian physician Sámuel Rácz has been already written by several authors during the last centuries. These biographies however often contain false details, not to mention the fact, that some important questions regarding Rácz’s life remained still unanswered. The present publication attempts to fill the gaps and to correct the former mistakes. Author gives a detailed analysis of the contemporary sources including school and university registers, noble’s diplomes, necrologues, mem- oires, a personal introduction written by Rácz etc. He also painfully compared the text of the different other contemporary authors with those of Rácz proving, that they had borrowed some texts from the latter. Present paper again proves the importance of the critical attitude toward former results and the eminent importance of primary sources.
