JÓZSA L. : Betegségábrázolások bizánci (egyházi) műalkotásokon 47 frescoes, 59 miniatures and 20 mosaics). The main body of artworks (480 samples) originate from the posticonoclastic period, i.e. 10-15th century. Only on 124 pictures could be identified 36 different physiological (gravidity, labour) or pathological (goitre, joint diseases, palsy etc.) conditions. The most frequently illustrated pathological condition were the goitre (on 50 persons), the osteoarthritis (on 31 persons) and the anomalies of eyes (on 12 persons), while palsy, traumatic alterations, osteoporosis, developmental anomalies and other pathologies emerged in smaller number. On Byzantine pieces of arts altogether 151 pathological and 17 physiological conditions (gravidity, childbirth) could be identified by the author.
