SUMMARY Russian surgeon I. V. Bujalskij (1789—1866) was a distinguished scientist and physician of the earlier part of the 19th century. He had made a valuable contribution to vascular surgery. He elaborated mis particular discipline in his thesis (1823), in his work ,,Anatomicosurgical Charts ..." (1828) — translated into German and widely known in Europe and America — as well as in quite a number of other works. He contributed greatly to surgical treatment of urolithiasis (1852), performed diverse surgical operations successfully, in­troduced a number of surgical instruments (Bujalskij's tourniquet, Bujalskij's spatula). He was also an emi­nent anatomist and headed the respective department in Petersburg Medicochirurgical Academy.
