took place in a closed system. In the first year already one décentre was established in Budapest and one in the country, in Szombathely. Two courses were organized for the training of physi­cians and nurses responsible for transfusion at the hospitals and clinics. At that time from among the socialistic countries (the Soviet Union excepted) Hungary was the first to establish an up-to-date national trasfusion service and institute. Development in our country kept up with world level in this field too, consequently the Hungarian blood donor service and its central institution the National Institute of Haematology and Blood-Transfusion figures in the first rank today.
