Említésre méltók Fabini János Teofil egyetemi oklevelei és előadásainak kéziratai, Schulek Vilmos nemzetközi nagydíjjal kitüntetett, szabadalmazott kamarás szemüvegkészlete okmányaival együtt, múlt századi szemorvosi műszertárak, szemüvegszekrények és szemüveg ritkaságok, a Semmelweis Orvostörténeti Múzeum és dr. Varannai Gyula szemészeti vonatkozású éremgyűjteménye, valamint dr. Brand Imre szemészeti bélyeggyűjteménye. A kiállítás szakmai előkészítésében dr. Harkó Viola tudományos főmunkatárs volt a forgatókönyvet író dr. Kapronczay Károly osztályvezető segítségére. A kiállítás megrendezését Vida Mária osztályvezető, az angol szöveg elkészítését pedig Faludy Anikó tudományos munkatárs végezte. A kiállításról igen nagy elismeréssel nyilatkozott dr. Radnót Magda professzor, az Európai Szemorvos Társaság elnöke, valamint a kiállítást meglátogató igen nagy számú külföldi látogató. Elismerésüket a vendégkönyvek bejegyzései tanúsítják. K. K. PICTURES FROM THE PAST OF OPHTALMOLOGY IN HUNGARY — Exhibition in the Ssmm;lweis Medical Historical Museum — The congress of the European Ophtalmologists was held in Budapest on 17—19th April. On this occasion the Semmelweis Medical Historical Museum and Library opened its temporary exhibition "Pictures from the History of Ophtalmology in Hungary", which closed on 15th July 1972. It covered Hungarian ophtalmology from the beginnings to the second World War, giving glimpses from the progress of European ophtalmology, and from the activities and Hungarian connections of outstanding oculists like Beer, Graefe, Arlt. In addition to books, manuscripts, instruments and medals from the collections of the Semmelweis Museum some other rarities kept by the Hungarian Technical Museum and by private collectors were also shown. In Hungary the foundations of clinical ophtalmology were laid down by Jakab Plenck, Vencel Trnka, Sámuel Pácz, to be followed by the famous oculists of the 19th century: János Teofil Fabini, Ignác Hirschler, and Vilmos Schulek. After presenting their careers and scientific work the exhibition recalled the activities of the more recent specialists who introduced the most up-to-date methods in examination and operation. The showcases of the various periods of ophtalmologie history also exhibited the caracteristic instruments, spectacles, lenses, and ophtalmoscopes of each age. Let us mention a few items displayed: the diplomas and lecture-notes of János Teofil Fabini: the patented set of spectacles (with documents) of Vilmos Schulek, which was awarded with an international prize, ophtalmie instrumentcases from the 19th century, spectacle-cabinets and rare glasses: medals from
