11. The letter of Dr. József Antall, deputy director of the Semmelweis Medical Historical Museum and Library to Dr. Med. univ. Marlene Jantsch Budapest, 7. October 1970. Dear Colleague, In July this year I ordered two jubilee volumes of our Communicationes de História Artis Medicináé to be sent off to you. I should like to ask you to acknowledge their receipt. At the same time I asked you in my letter from 18. 7. 1970 (Nr. 3503 ref. Bibl/Va) to compile an article on Semmelweis's illness and death on the basis of the Semmelweis documents known to you. Well, I have not received any answer up till now, and the article we are looking forward to receiving has not arrived either. Please, excuse me that I trouble you but I solicit you for an answer, no matter if positive of negative. Looking forward of your answering by return of post. I remain yours truly Dr. phil. December 1970. Dear Madame, I am extremely sorry that you have left both of our letters unanswered, so that I do not even know, whether you have received the volumes of the Com municationes or not. It is rather strange that it seems so difficult to receive an answer from Austria, a country nearby, despite the good relations of the Austrian and Hungarian medical historians .. . I still do hope that you will be so kind as express your view concerning the significant questions we have put forward. If you fail to do so in 14 days (the complete silence is actually a kind of answer, too) I shall be compelled to publish the material at hand—sine ira et studio —without your consent. Yours sincerely Dr. phil. József Antall deputy director, editor
