TANULMÁNYOK - Horánszky Nándor: Deák Ferenc lelki alkatának és betegségének befolyása pályájára
continuous tensions paved the way or brought out this depression which —considering his age —may have coincided with the period of a biological crisis. The illness did not leave any mark on the personality of Deák. In his later years his spirit and character was the same as on the Diets of the Age of Reforms. This unbroken line of life is also typical of the cyclothymacs. Temperamentally Deák was not a revolutionary personality. The mildness of his nature stood out against any force, any bloodshed. His thoughtful carefulness made him cautious of any revolutionary steps which can lead to incalculable consequences. The limits of his fantasy were always determined by the results which could be achieved without risking the nation. Optimism fed by a firm confidence in the future was also lacking in him. His personality seeking peaceful solutions is the embodiment of the "sensible mediator" known by Kretschmer.
