Külön fejezet foglalkozik a vérátömlesztéshez szükséges berendezésekkel az anaesthesiologiával, a thrombosis és a vénás tágulatok kezelésével. Meg kell említenünk a poliklinikai (járóbeteg) rendelést. A belső secretiós zavarok kezelésével R. Wenner foglalkozik, akinek könyve általánosan ismert. Külön részleg foglalkozik a fertilitas zavaraival. Szövettani és cytologiai részleg is van s 1912 óta diagnosticai és therapiás röntgenberendezéssel rendelkezik a klinika. Külön socialhygienes részleg törődik a betegekkel, saját személyzetük részére saját gyermekgondozójuk van. Röviden foglalkozik a könyv a medikus- és bábaoktatással, orvos-továbbképzéssel. Laboratóriumuk chemiai, biológiai, steroid-chemiai vizsgálatokra van berendezve. Maga a könyv — amint ebből a szűkre szabott ismertetésből kitűnik — rendkívül tanulságos orvostörténészek, szülészek és az egészségüggyel foglalkozók számára. Igazat kell adnunk a könyv bevezetésében írott mondatnak: „Ein ähnliche Darstellung der Entwicklungsphase eines klinisches Spitals im Rahmen unseres Fachgebietes dürfte weder im deutschen, noch im anglosächsischen Schrifttum zu finden sein." Fekete Sándor This is a most useful and important book which should interest the readers and researchers of medical history. Reading this volume we are deeply interested not only in the choosen subject: the development of hundred years in the history of gynecology and obstetrics in Basel but in the colourful characters of those outstanding men whose activity and love for profession created this gynecological clinic. The success of this volume is guaranteed by those experts who have written according to their special professional field the separate chapters, as the historical back-ground by Dr. G. A. Wanner, the medical history by Prof. H. Buess, the clinical part by Prof. Th. Koller and his collaborators. The heads of sections are writeing about the various departments. The outfit of the volume and the illustrations are superb, the latter are particularly well placed in regard to the continuity of the text. Reading the book one can lightly imagine how Basel, this former little, walled settlement grew into a big city and its Bürger-Spital into an imposing gynecological clinic. Viola R.
