the university in the year 1777, not very real. Neither were the conditions much more favourable in Buda, neither did the number of students surpass the average number at Tyrnavia. A marked improvement of conditions was observed only later and this occurred only after the university had moved to Pest. In spite of all the inadequacies and difficulties the medical faculty had to go through during the period of its existence at Tyrnavia, this period belongs to the most remarkable phases of development of the faculty. This was due to the pioneering and devoted activity of all the professors, most of whom shared its fate even in the new sphere of action. It is, however, very important to underline that it was at Trnava that foundations for serious study and research in medical sciences were laid and this was on the territory of former Hungary.
