The Hungarian pharmaceutical industry has great traditions. A skilled staff of 1,600 specialists works in the scientific research laboratories; 16,000 workers are employed in nine factories including the Chinoin Chemical and Pharmaceutical Works Ltd, the Chemical Works of Gedeon Richter Ltd. and the United Works Pharmaceutical and Dietetic Products producing pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals. Two thirds of the products are exported to 78 countries by medimpex Hungarian Trading Company for Pharmaceutical Products Budapest, 5 • P.O.B. 126 • Hungary The most important drugs exported for human use include alkaloids, antibiotics, barbiturates, digitalis glycosides, hormones, opiates, spasmolytics, sulphonamides, tranquillizers and vitamins. At present Hungary ranks 7 th among the world's pharmaceutical exporters. There is no group of diseases for which an effective Hungarian pharmacon is not available.
