The Hungarian pharmaceutical industry has great traditions. A skilled staff of 1,600 specialists works in the scientific research laboratories; 16,000 workers are employed in nine factories in­cluding the Chinoin Chemical and Pharmaceutical Works Ltd, the Chemical Works of Gedeon Richter Ltd. and the United Works Pharmaceutical and Dietetic Products producing pharma­ceuticals and fine chemicals. Two thirds of the products are ex­ported to 78 countries by medimpex Hungarian Trading Company for Pharmaceutical Products Budapest, 5 • P.O.B. 126 • Hungary The most important drugs exported for human use include al­kaloids, antibiotics, barbiturates, digitalis glycosides, hormones, opiates, spasmolytics, sulphonamides, tranquillizers and vitamins. At present Hungary ranks 7 th among the world's pharmaceutical exporters. There is no group of diseases for which an effective Hungarian pharmacon is not available.
