KISEBB KÖZLEMÉNYEK - ELŐADÁSOK - Sós József: Semmelweis emléke műalkotásokban a Budapesti Orvostudományi Egyetemen

szülőháza adott neki hajlékot. A nagy orvosok, köztük elsősorban Semmelweis emlékét azonban az Orvostudományi Kar, ma Orvostudományi Egyetem műalkotásokból álló gyűjteményével is fenntartja. Summary The succeeding generations give expression to their esteem towards the great men of the country by various works of art also. The Hungarian posterity was not forgetful even in the case of Semmelweis, Many statues, reliefs, portraits and medals made by excellent artists call to mind Semmelweis' work and personality. The Medical University of Budapest has more than 20 works of art devoted to his memory. Semmelweis was professor of the midwifes' clinic at Pest between 1855-1805. His department was a part of the Medical Faculty of the University (today independent as Medical University of Budapest). His memory is maintained and cultivated by the above mentioned works of art. Great Hungarian artists composed many excellent works devoted to Semmelweis' person. Some of them are the sculptor Alajos STRÓBL (1856-1926), Mór THAN, painter (18281899), Lajos BERÁN (1882-1943) and József REMÉNYI (1887-) sculptors and medal-makers, Sándor BALIKÓ (1869-1928) and Gergely SZÁNTÓ (1886-1962) plaque-makers. We can see Semmelweis' face in various formations, but he remains always the same person for us. All visualisations show him the very same man in an artistic manner. His memory remains living by these works of art in the possession of the Medical University of Budapest.
