(veneria), of the drastic or highly effective agents (heroica, drastica, mercuralia), with their presence at a sufficient amount, with the presence of separate grain measures and spoons and a separate mortar and pestle; that these should be locked separately and the place of the key to their lock. V. Some reports deal with the control of reagents (reagencia) as well. Cleanliness, order and the storage of medicaments of a high quality and a sufficient amount are general requirements. The owner is further on advised to keep a strict order, to be industrious and to meet the demands of the purchasers maximally. The study of the drugs themselves may be of special interest. Since the scier.ce of chemistry was making but is very first steps at that time, the main attention had been focused rather to the organoleptic studies (substance, density, translucence, colour, smell, taste). Some of the reports on pharmacy inspections enlist item after item the drugs which had been examined and also their qualification, moreover, in some cases the results obtained after chemical reactions are made mention of. For the sake of historical truth and for the partial documentation of all what I have described I cite here the report of Samuel Biel J county health officer; this report is one of those which contain the highest number of drugs examined and so it is very probable that the whole process of pharmacy inspection was carried out with great care in this case. „Anno 1839 Die i6° Octobris in praesentia infrascriptorum visitata est Apotheca Nagy-Tapolcsancnsis ad Aureum Leonem nuncupata.
