cine. On his return to Hungary he practised at Késmárk, where he maintained also a medical school. Later, he became the physicist of the county of Liptó, then the Chief Physician of the county of Szepes. In the early phase of his literary activities Fischer wrote an assay showing pietist influence, in which he dealt with the noxious powers of the devil and of withches (Tentamen pneumatologicophysicum de mancipiis diaboles sive sagis. Vitenbergae, 1716). His later publications, however, are empirical in character, free of superstition. He wrote articles dealing with almost every branch of medicine. In 1732 Fischer made public his plan to organize a scientific society and to publish a scientific periodical. He was a pioneer with this act in Hungary. The 31-page draft bore the title: Epistola invitatoria Pannóniáé dicata, qua ad Acta eruditorum Pannonica res et eventusa naturales ac morbos patrios exponentia edenda perhumaniter invitatus a D. Danielo Fischero. The periodical was planned to be composed of three parts („classis") and an appendix („appendix") and was to deal with topics relating to natural objects and phenomena (res et eventus naturales), as well as with the diseases occurring in Hungary (morbos patrios). Owing to financial and organisatorial difficulties these plans were never realised.
