Dr. DADAY ANDRÁS: Schoepf Ágoston a pesti egyetemen
SUMMARY Ágoston Schoepf was an outstanding personality of the Hungarian medical profession and of the medical faculty of the university of Pest. Already when excelling at foreign universities Schoepf served his country by showing what Hungarians could do. Later, when he had returned, to Hungary, he threw in weight his great knowledge in an effort to make his countrymen adopt new ideas. Himself an innovator, Schoepf becomes the first lecturer on medical history in Hungary and the founder of the first orthopaedic institute in the Austro —Hungarian Monarchy. Sparing neither time nor himself, he lays the foundations of the fourth hospital for children in Europe in Pest. In appreciation of his expert knowledge he is honoured by -the promotion to the rank of the first sallaried extraordinary professor of pediatry. This promotion led later to the creation of the pediatric faculty. His fame as a Hungarian medical man will be unfading and he won our everlasting gratitude by teaching medicine in the Hungarian language. 8 Orvostörténeti közi. 113
