JUDIT KIS-HALAS Transformed tradition: casting women in Töröcske (Hungary) The oral tradition of casting women in the Hungarian village, Töröcske have been the subject of a number of ethnographic publications. This research argues that the fate of the prayer told during the wax casting (used for divination) and the history of those women's dynasty has been very closely interconnected. After introducing the women belonging to the casting dynasty, the analysis focuses on the relationship between the motives stories about the way of gaining knowledge for divination and the prayer used thereby. Although the text of the prayer has remained intact during the last decades, now it has lost its former role.
