PAPP RICHÁRD: Vallási tradíció és kisebbségi kultúra a Kárpát-medencében

RICHÁRD PAPP Religious traditions and minority cultures in the Carpathian basin This essay provides an anthropological analysis of three religious communities in Eastern Europe. It argues that on the one hand religious teaching and experience are highly connected to the incorporation of minority's values into religious rituals, and on the other these two entities do not appear separately in their everyday way of life and both contribute to the forming of national identity as well. The first community described is a Jewish group in Budapest led by an orthodox rabbi. The community's religious life shows also some néologie features. What will be shown is how the renewal of Jewish religious practices radically changes the former frames of the religious community and how it can integrate the younger Jewish generations that did not participate formerly in religious life. The two remaining chapters depicts the life of Hungarian speaking reformed and Catholic and Serbian Pravoslavic communities living in the northern part of Serbia. Here the articulation of identities and the social conflicts are reflected in the changes of different rituals.
