CONSTANTIUS II (Julian Caesar) A.D. 341 TO 346 Our Province played an important role in the campaign of Constantius II in 356, when there were raids of the Sarmatians and Quads in the middle region of the Danube. In 357 the Emperor received the delegation of the Quads and Marcomannians in Pannónia and he prepared for the ex­pedition against Barbaricum here in the years 357-358. In 359 the Emperor ultimately destroyed Limigantes absorbing energies constantly. In these years the fortified towns (Tricciana, Iovia) of inner Pannónia were strengthened, and around this time the Limes Sarmatiae was already in comp lete harmony with the strategic movements. The annual money circulation of the years 346-354 was 202 pieces, now this dropped to 147 annually (Fig. 65). During this period coins of the value of AE 2 cannot be found anymore, and AE 4 appeared for the first time besides AE 3, in large quantities with the reverse legend of SPES REI PUBLICE, Rev. Type Nr. (25) . Besides the and © variants of the reverse type FEL TEMP REPARATIO remained in circulation. Monetary circulation best representing real life of all times can be best studied in the ma­terial of the graves. In this period the following sites are of particular interest: the coins of the so-called "warrior's graves" of Ságvár 153., Majs 52.; Bogád, 20.; Zengővárkony II 3., ll/b. Besides the mints of Italy and Siscia mainly the Eastern ones were producing for the Empe­ror and Julian Caesar. Coins of the value of AE 3 were produced in a system of divided and supp lementary mints, whereas the coins of the value of AE 4 of a single type (Nr. (25) ) were identi­cally produced in large quantities, differences may be seen only in the case of the Eastern mints.
