II. INTRODUCTION TO THE CATALOGUE

MEDAILONS - MOULDS Medailons were separated from coins, since they cannot be considered part of the regular currency. Their low rate of occurance also proves this. They are mainly found at military settlements thus they are closely related to the military and the connection of the military with the east /NK 56-57/1957-58/47/. Below we list only the medailons which are positively of Szőny, those of alleged Szőny origin not. /Thus we do not list the pieces of FA Io./I958/78,-5, 6, 7,12/. These medailons except for one minted in Italy, were struck in the Thracian Perinthos and Philippopolis. These were probably the awards for the festival games organized here. 1.
