II. INTRODUCTION TO THE CATALOGUE

CEMETERIES OF SZŐNY Several connecting cemeteries were excavated beginning in 1926-27 in the course of systematic research work. Beside these a few graves and sarcophagus groups were dug up also which cannot be considered as cemeteries. The cemeteries will be treated according to their topographical situation, and their coinage by graves. This breaks up the system of the catalogue somewhat, which lists the coins by emperors and within emperors chronologically , but we have not found it sensible to break up the grave units. In the evaluation of the cemeteries we shall deal with the chronology, which is very important here, separately anyway. Numbering of graves follows the publications and the inventories.
