ROOM 9. The Rákóczi War of Independence and the Anti -Turkish Wars at the Beginning of the 18th Century (Gábor Németh)

6. Harpsichord once owned by the Thököly family, late 17th century for eight years he fought with exemplary belief and determination in defence of the "dear homeland". The painting depicting the prince and his family recalls the ancestral galleries of earlier times. The portrait of the ruling prince is the work of Ádám Mányoki, his court painter, in 1705 (see Fig. 1). Stressing the princely dignity of his subject, this outstanding master of Baroque portraitpainting in Hungary depicts Rákóczi as the master of Transylvania (according to the Latin inscription), in a purple cloak with an ermine border worn over his armour. Two oil paintings, by unknown artists, show, respectively, Ferenc Rákóczi I and Ilona Zrínyi, who was famous for her bravery and for her exceptional beauty.
