onze Age settlements in Northern and Eastern Hungary (1948-1985). The map (Fig. 1) is based on the data published by the excavators. Since the detailed publication of most excavations is not yet available, the data have been drawn from the brief reports published in Régészeti Füzetek in Hungarian, and in Archaeologiai Értesítő in German, more rarely from preliminary reports, and only occasionally from the complete publication of a site. This explains why in some cases not even the basic parameters of some sites can be given. The available evidence is published as follows: a. year of excavation; b. size of the excavated area; c. thickness of the layer sequence (reconstructed from the depths given from the present surface); d. occupants of the site according to archaeological cultures; e. published reports of the excavations.
