drastic changes occurring on the basis of the first great world-burning were not able to suffocate the fine art life of the town, but the lessons of the "classic period", its traditions, its spiritual heritage altered several times, influenced by the intentions of daily politics. There occurred serious shiftings of accent, but this is influencing the research, the publication of results, the conclusions. It is perhaps the consequence of this fact, that Nagybánya presents in the public way of thinking such a notion, in the frame of which the accents of the several elements may be modified at will. If necessary, history is dominating, if necessary, the ideality of the movement, if necessary then the question consists in narrow professional style-problems. So occurred this emblem to become a reference-basis sometimes of the artistic evolution, another time of the revolution, of the progression, but in hard historical periods of the guarding of quality. Our exhibition, organized for the centenary of the formation of the artist colony of Nagybánya, and the publication connected with it, cannot be necessarily, on the basis of the circumstances mentioned above, a great recapitulating venture, publishing a definitive professional standpoint. It may only document the professional level of the artistic products chosen from the circle of the works having come into being at that time and on that place, it may document the quality of the actual choice; and also that process can flash - taking notice also of the art exhibitions connected with each other -, to the further research of which this jubilee program may serve as contribution. However it is incontestable, that the internationally known works of excellent masters, the lessons of a more or less known artistic event-series may justify in a historic connection, that it is not worthiwhile to speak about Europeanity, national culture, human being and art on the basis of intentions, of slogans, but only on the basis of facts.
