FROM PARIS TO NAGYBÁNYA - PARIS - KRISZTINA PASSUTH: Café Dôme
Café Dôme forms part of the period's art history the same way as those art academies do, which are situated in the neighbourhood, in the heart of Montparnasse and on the nearby streets. Quite often, the crowd, which attended the modernist private schools, was the same one that frequented the cafés Dôme, Rotonde and Closerie de Lilas, sharing and discussing their fresh experiences over a nice cup of coffee. As a result, the artists' society was able to establish a centre of truly international composition and orientation in the new intellectual hub of Paris, one that was substantially different from the locations and subculture of the Montmartre, an area mostly visited by tourists. The Dôme is located at the intersection of Boulevard du Montparnasse and Boulevard Raspail, in the district that received its present, metropolitan look in consequence of contemporary urban planning and the opening of Boulevard Raspail in 1913. The windows of Hotel de la Haute-Loire, where Rippl-Rónai took out a room in 1910, as captured in one of his paintings, 1 (Cat. No. 216) looked onto this square. Café Dôme in 2005.
