28. Former high altar of the church of St Martin in Cserény, 1483 similar superstructures from Leibic. one dedicated to St Anne (1510-20), the other to two female saints (1521). Later the statues of two holy bishops were inserted in the shrine of the latter. In the centre, on the left, the larger-than-life statues of the high altar of St John the Baptist from Kisszeben (1490-1516) can be admired: the Virgin, St John the Baptist and St Peter, with other statues and paintings from the same altarpiece. Flanking the entrance to the left and right there are two 15th century altarpieces connecting this section to the groundfloor exhibition: St Martin's altarpiece from Cserény and the altarpiece of the Ecstasy of Mary Magdalene from Berki. The former is dated 1483- On the wings the legends of St Martin and St Bereck are narrated by the painter who belonged to the circle of the master of the St Nicholas high altar from Jánosrét. The relief of the Mary Magdalene altar (1480-90) is closely connected to the outstanding wood carvings of the St Elizabeth high altar in Kassa. The sculptor took special delight in modelling the background, giving the legend a fabulous atmosphere. In the 15th century, there was a great rise in the number of altarpieces.
