Munkácsy Mihály 1844. február 20-án született Munkácson. Szülei Lieb Leo Mihály és Reök Cecília. A munkácsi római katolikus plébániahivatal adatai alapján apja foglalkozása sóperceptor, azaz kincstári sótiszt volt.
