COUNT GEORG VON WERTHERN (1663-I72i) Son of Friedrich von Werthern zu Bechlingen (1630-1686) and Agnes Magdalena von Heseler. He was chamberlain, privy councillor, and cabinet minister of Saxony, and chancellor from 1715. Between 1697 and 1709, he was ambassador of the Saxon court to the Netherlands and Regensburg. He was chief administ­rator of the province of Thuringia, elevated to the rank of count in 1702. He was also selected knight of the Order of the White Eagle. He lived in Rome from 1743 to his death, and was involved in the art trade, and made purchases for the royal gallery of Dresden.
