István Szőnyi takes part in a summer course organised at Nagybánya for the enlisted students of the Academy of Fine Arts. In Autumn Erzsébet Korb starts her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, in Oszkár Glatz's class. Károly Ferenczy dies in March. The Opera House stages Béla Bartók's ballet, The Wooden Prince in May. The Youths' second exhibition is arranged at the National Salon in June. The MA organises its first exhibition displaying the works of János Mattis Teutsch in October. 1918 Between March and May, Vilmos AbaNovák goes on a study leave; after completing a three-month course he receives a teacher certificate for secondary and higher education institutions; after this he is transferred to the Italian theatre of war. The enlisted college students, István Szőnyi, Vilmos Aba-Novák, Károly Patkó, Imre Nagy and Lajos Varga Nándor spend their leave working in one of the Academy of Fine Arts' studios. István Szőnyi spends the summer once again at Nagybánya by studying and working; Jenő Paizs Goebel also visits the place. In November, Vilmos Aba-Novák is discharged from the army and is given the post of assistant lecturer at the Technical University's Department of Drawing where he continues working until the end of the academic year. Szőnyi contracts the Spanish Grippe. The list of pupils in the exhibition catalogue of the Free School in Haris köz started in 1913 and re-started in 1916 by the Művészház includes, among others, the following: István Szőnyi, Erzsébet Korb, Jenő Pászk, Vince Korda, Péter Dobrovics and János Kmetty. Erzsébet Korb exhibits a female nude at the Spring Exhibition of the National Salon. Béla Bartók's opera, the Bluebeard's Castle is opened (text by Béla Balázs) and the Academy of Music (Zeneakadémia) devotes a concert to the works of Zoltán Kodály in May. In September, MA organises a demonstrative exhibition at which, among others, János Kmetty, József Nemes Lampérth, Béla Uitz, and Pál Pátzay participate; a collective exhibition of the works of Lajos Tihanyi is opened in October. Tens of thousands of people, including the writer, Margit Kaffka, fall victim to the Spanish grippe epidemic between September and December. The National Council is established under the presidency of Mihály Károlyi on October 23; the "aster revolt" triumphs on October 3 1. The Monarchy signs the Truce on November 3. The last volume of Endre Ady's poems, A halottak élén (At the Head of the Deadj is published in December. In December, because of its pacifist pamphlets, the interior minister bans the Galilei Circle founded in 1908.
