Accession of the Collections (Gyűjteménygyarapodás) (BÉKEFI Eszter, SZŰCS György)

and a 15th Century Madonna statue from Tihany (?) (inv.no.: 2000.2 M). Both are important pièces of the permanent exhibition. A valuable acquisition of the Department of Painting is Miklós Barabás' Portrait of Pál Antal Esterházy (inv.no.: 2000.4 T). The majority of gifts received by the Department of Prints and Drawings this year were from the students of the Jaschik school. The two purchased works (by Káta Benedek) also came from the Jaschik exhibition in Tölgyfa Gallery. The works of György Almár-Frankel were donated tó the muséum by the Frankel family, the drawings of Sándor Ernyei by his widow. The print collection was enriched with bookplates from the library of the Museum of Fine Arts and with 14 sheets from the Helbing cstate. The poster collection took over works from other institu­tions (Széchényi Library, Academy of Fine Arts, Budapest Film, Opera House). Several donations were also made (Péter Pócs, István Orosz, Zsuzsa Gerő, Ferenc Csaplár, Magdolna Gál, Katalin Káldor, György Hegyi, Zsuzsa Beck, Jaschik's pupils, Károly Szabó, András Szabó, Mrs Sándor Ernyei). The Contemporary Collection purchased on its own resour­ces Tibor Vilt's King Stephen the Founder (1964, inv.no.: MM 2000. 43), a lead small sculpture. Endre Tót donated several of his "empty pictures" tó the muséum which conjure up "classical" works preserved in the National Gallery (Museum index-card - Munkácsy: Yawning apprentice 1999, inv.no.: MM 2000. 5; Self-portrait in Hungárián gala attire - Benczúr, 1999, inv.no.: MM 2000.7; Distant picture - Woman in a lilac dress, 1999, inv.no.: MM 2000. 9). The acquisition of Mariann Imre's St Cecília, a large installation of 1997-2000 (inv.no.:MM 2000.15) was supported by the Ministry of National Héritage. 2001 This year the Old Hungárián Collection purchased Vinzenz Fischer: Scene at the foundation of Carthago (inv.no.: 2001.1 M), Vinzenz Fischer: Dido and Aeneas (inv.no.: 2001.2.M), Central European sculptor: The Virgin with the Infant Jesus and little St John the Baptist (2nd half of 17th Century, inv.no.: 2001.3 M), Johann Nepomuk Höfel: Portrait of a woman in a white dress (1810, inv.no.: 2001.4 M), Austrian ör Hungárián painter: The devotional statue of the Calvary church in Kismarton (2nd half of 18th Century, inv.no.: 2001.5 M), Austrian painter: Esther be­fore Ahashver (1760s, inv.no.: 2001.6 M) and Ádám Mányoki: Portrait of countess Bielinska (c.1718, inv.no.: 2001.7 M). An outstanding acquisition of the Department of Painting is Gyula Rudnay's large painting, Coronation of Charles IV (1916, inv.no.: 2001.1 T) and another is the painting Mother with two children by Géza Dósa, who died at a young age (c.1870, inv.no.: 2001.2 T). Rudnay's painting is temporarily, Dósa's continuously on display in the permanent exhibition of 19th-20th Century art. Most gifts tó the Department of Prints and Drawings and Prints were works by Marcell Vértes. A saliently important do­nation was made by Mátyás Knausz: a work by Károly Márkó sr. The purchased works were selected from various estâtes (Géza Bene, Vilmos Aba-Novák, Jenő Paizs Goebel, ete.) The Department of Sculpture received two notable works: a bronze Head of Christ by János Fadrusz (inv.no.: 01.2-N) and a marble statue of the palatine Joseph by an unknown 19th Cen­tury master (inv.no.: 01.3-N). The Medál Department purchased 7 medals by Tamás E. Soltra. The considérable further accessions were donations (works by György Kiss, Tamás E. Soltra, László Szunyogh, László Szlávics jr., Ferenc Friedrich, Gábor Gáti, László Horváth and Gyula Meszes Tóth). The Contemporary Collection used its own resources tó buy Ferenc Bolmányi's painting Mementó (1957, inv.no.: MM 2001. 42). Out of the works created in the spirit of 1956 and presented at several exhibitions lately, Ilka Gedö's three works were ac­quired: Mask store (1980), Witches in the making (1981, inv.no.: MM 2001.32), Monster and boy (1981, inv.no.: MM 2001.33). From the end-of-the-year extensive exhibition at the Palace of Art, we purchased László Fehér's Self-portrait in a cap with ear­flaps (2001, inv.no.: MM 2001.37). Endre Rozsda's Yellow tulips were donated tó the muséum by Francois Gilot (1936, inv.no.: MM 2001.28). Several important works of art could be purchased with the support of the Ministry of National Héritage, including: László Méhes: Planks (1967, inv.no.: MM 2001.17), a valuable addition tó our pop art collection; Dora Maurer's V. Mayday procession on an artificial ground (1971, inv.no.: MM 2001.18) representing the actions of the '70s. The collection of prints and drawings acquired works from the XXth Graphic Biennial of Miskolc: Gábor György Nagy: Morandi copies 1-5 (2000, inv.no.: MM 2001.5-9), Endre Koronczi: Objects pressing into the body 1-3 (1998-1999, inv.no.: MM 2001.19-21).
