ABSTRACT 120 years of publications. Printed original and temporary publications of the museum of Hungarian Agriculture Sándor Perjámosi The Museum of Hungarian Agriculture since its opening has been publishing material that helps orient the readership in museum matters. First mainly prospecti and collection guides were published, usually multilingual if possible. From 1927 the Museum Friends Circle assisted such publications financially and professionally; this is when attempts were made to launch the first temporary releases as well. From the 1930s a series presenting Hungarian agricultural bibliography was started, which defined museum activities for a long time. World War II brought silence; the years after that, a battle for survival. From 1956 the need to publish both academic and popular works increased. Temporary exhibitions were often accompanied by a separate publication, which became an established routine by the early 1970s. In 1973 the Museum Friends Circle was re-established as an organisation of support. In the 1970s the museum also started to publish works assisting museum education, and the prospecti of regional branches also started to appear. By the end of the decade however the number of publications dropped. From the 1980s the release of museum prospecti and exhibition guides increased, but temporary exhibitons were now rarely accompanied by a separate guide, and these had completely disappeared by the 2000s. The publication of the multivolume Hungarian Agricultural Biography was a decisive moment. The years following the political upheaval of 1989 brought uncertainty, and only in the mid-1990s did publishing start to recover. Apart from general notices, guides to permanent exhibitions started to appear and some collection guides were also published. The 1990s also saw the launch of a series of museum conferences, which resulted in several excellent conference paper collections to the present day. The 2000s was the period of academic papers, conference transactions and monographs, as well as the continuation of old and recent academic series. 317 I I
