Nagy Frigyes: A 120 éves Mezőgazdasági Múzeum létrehozásában szerepet játszott óvári gazdászok
ABSTRACT The Óvár experts contributing to the foundation of the 120 year old Museum of Hungarian Agriculture Frigyes Nagy In 1896 Hungary and its achievements were presented in a monumental exhibition, an integral part of which was to display rural life to the audience. The selection of the material to be presented needed significant theoretical and practical expertise. Minister of Agriculture Ignác Darányi found the experts for this task among the professors of the Royal Hungarian Farming Academy at Magyaróvár. The Academy provided instruction and research that combined the most up to date scientific achievements with practical knowledge. The instructors gained their expertise as former factors of aristocratic estates, but they also acquired national or even international renown for their lectures and publications in various fields of science. They had also got acquainted with the agriculture of more developed countries during their study trips. Therefore they were aware of the requirements that needed to be met to provide an informative exhibition. Among the students of the academy several Central European countries were well represented. The selection of the experts might have been influenced by the Habsburg estate at Magyaróvár, which on the one hand founded and maintained the academy since 1818, and on the other played an important role in sponsoring the exhibition. The selection and maintenance of the selected material was mostly overseen by Alajos Paikert as well as the first director, Árpád Balás. Their memory is faithfully cultivated in Mosonmagyaróvár. 20
