Tanulmányok - Takáts Rózsa: Nagy Ferenc tordai gyümölcsfaültetvényének jegyzéke, 1862.

The Torda fruit tree plantation catalogue of Ferenc Nagy, 1862 (source publication) RÓZSA TAKÁCS Specialist Hungarian fruit production underwent significant development from the early 1800s to the second half of the 19th century. The number of productive tree nurseries significantly rose from the early to the late 19th century and they contributed to this goal by publishing price catalogues, classifying fruit species and using increasingly precise species nomenclature. A transitional stage of this process is presented in this study, which publishes the handwritten description of an orchard planted at Torda by Ferenc Nagy (1814-1876) of Ürögd, a teacher of the Reformed College at Kolozsvár (Clu) Napoca, Romania). He sent the catalogue to the Pomology Department of the Hungarian Horticultural Association in 1862. His remarks with reference to the 68 apple, 81 pear and 30 plum species he regarded as his most outstanding not only contain valuable information on the quality of the fruit and the conditions of their local production - preserving the contemporary names of several quality regional breeds - but by listing the names of the suppliers of foreign species they also give an insight into the purchase network of a wellconnected expert fruit breeder. Máté Berecki, the outstanding pomology expert of the 19th century, was also in contact with Nagy, and during the identification of fruit names his work that was the foundation of pomology nomenclature was of significant help to the current author. Due to space constraints a complete list of the officially classified fruit species names cannot be given, but they are referred to in the bibliography section. The original source is kept in the Agricultural Document Collection of the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture. 128
