the documentation material started in 1959, and the bases of the database were formed in the early 1960s. In 1963 the Agrarian-historical Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences discussed the agrarian-historical work schedule of the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture. The discussion did not only enrich the scientific work of the museum but also resulted in the increase of the collections, the increase of the role and enrichment of the collections in the documentation department. At the museum stock-taking was begun that year and the collections were established in form of a documentation department. The registers of the collections were classified by means of a classification system based on the Universal Decimal Classification. In 1964 another most significant collection cabinet was established: the Agrobotanical cabinet was adumbrated. From the 1970s in the spirit of propagating scientific knowledge the collection cabinets for educational purposes appeared among the cabinets of the museum. At the very moment the collections of the museum are in possession of over 70,000 inventoried works of art, the documentation collection over 200,000 objects. The book stock of the library exceeds 80,000 volumes.
