Dr. Éber Ernő: A mezőgazdaságtan első hazai tanszéke és első tanára: Mitterpacher Lajos

teaching, the Ratio Educationis made agriculture a compulsory subject at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Buda University. The author publishes the curriculum to be followed in the teaching of agriculture. He analyses the events, which led to discontinue compulsory teaching of agriculture at the university in 1785. After the death of József II. it was again enforced by law in 179Ü and the Ratio Educationis II. published in 1806 confirmed compulsory teaching of agriculture at the university. The paper deals at length with the activity of the abbot Lajos Mitterpacher, born in 1734 who was the first to hold this chair until his death in 1814, and whose literary activity in the field lent authority to the science of agriculture. The author gives an account of Mitterpacher' s achievements also in the field of technical literature, his major work being the Elementa rei rusticae in usum academiarum Regni Hungáriáé published in 1777—1779. The latter should be considered as the first methodical compendium of agricultural sciences published in this country and translated into several foreign languages.
