Dr. Iványi Béla: Adatok a magyar halászat történetéhez

The second part of the study deals with the "fish circle". In opposition to Ottó Herman, the author correctly interprets the word "mázsa" (Hungarian for hundredweight) as a measure. He also quotes several fish prices and fish names. The town of Körmend was a major centre of fish trade in the 17 tn century. Fishermen are also quoted by name with their respective salaries. From Körmend fish was shipped via Graz. The third part deals with other fishing enterprises of the Batthyány family. Fishponds in the possession of this family are also described. Trout catching is discussed in details. The author gives particulars on the annual salary of the master fisherman and on the various groups of fishermen. The name of a few net makers and the price of tools are also quoted. Literature on the subject is richly quoted in the footnotes. 8* 115
