ÉVA KATALIN VÁMOS: JUSTUS VON LIEBIG'S HUNGARIAN CONNECTIONS BY CORRESPONDENCE Although many Hungarians went studying to different German universities in the 19th century, they seem to have avoided Justus von Liebig's departments both in Gießen and Munich. However, Hungarian scientists and industrial experts sought his advice and acquaintance. This is proven by letters the author had found in the archives of the Justus Liebig Universität Gießen and the Liebig Collection of the Bayrische Staatsbibliothek Munich. Liebig's most important correspondents from Hungary were László Wagner, professor of Budapest Technical University and Károly Than, professor of Budapest University of Science. Among the industrial experts we find representatives of the Roller Mill József, a pharmacy owner from Pozsony (Bratislava) and a wine merchant from Temesvár (Timisoara). Beside these, the famous pianist and composer Ferenc Liszt belonged to the circle of his friends. The hand written letters of these persons are given in the original language (German) and in their Hungarian translation.
