TANULMÁNYOK - Vámos Éva Katalin: Women’s Opportunities of Studying and Practising Engineering in Hungary from 1895 to 1968 (On the example of Budapest Technical University and its women students)
a) Women on the teaching and scientific staff ot the Technical University for Building and Transport Engineering, Budapest, 1966/67 In the academic year 1966/67 the Technical University for Building and Transport Engineering had 3 faculties: Faculty of Building Engineering (11 Departments), Faculty of Transport Engineering (7 Departments) and Faculty of [Civil] Engineering (16 Departments). The individual features of these departments will be given in a similar way as for Budapest Technical University. Table 7 shows the number of the persons on the teaching and scientific staff at the three faculties together with the respective figures for women. Table 7 Total number of persons on the teaching and scientific staff ot the Engineering Faculties of the Technical University for Building and Transport Engineering, Budapest 80 Faculty Total number of teaching & scientific staff 8182 Number of women on teaching & scientific staff Women, % of total Building Engineering 151 12 8.0 Transport Engineering 68 2 2.9 Civil Engineering 219 22 10.0 Total 438 36 8.2 From the Table it can be seen that the proportion of female staff did not exceed 10% at any of the Faculties, and was definitely lower than at Budapest Technical University (see Table 2.) The Faculty of Transport Engineering had hardly any female teaching & scientific staff; it must be noted that its total number of staff was also considerably lower than that of the other two faculties. The highest number of staff, both male and female, could be found at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Women were employed in some of the 34 departments of the 3 faculties. At the Faculty of Building Engineering women could be found on the teaching & scientific staff of 6 out of the 11 departments 83 . The two women participating in tuition & research of the Faculty of Transport Engineering were on the staff ot the departments of Transport Economics and Transport Operation, respectively. The Faculty of Civil Engineering employed women in tuition & research at 9 out of the 16 departments. 84
