TANULMÁNYOK - Batári Gyula: A „Nova Posoniensia” technikatörténeti és természettudományos vonatkozásairól

Sokat foglalkozott Bél Mátyás lapjában Európa különböző tudós társaságaival és akadémiáival, ehhez hozzájárulhatott az a körülmény, hogy tagja volt többek között a londoni királyi, a bécsi, a berlini és a jénai akadémiáknak. Itt jegyezzük meg, hogy rendszeres cikkírója, levelezője volt a „Nova Lipsiensia", a „Miscellanea Beroliniensia" és a „Nova Liberaría" című, az ország határain kívül megjelenő folyóiratoknak. (7) A „Nova Posoniensia" 1722 szeptemberében jelent meg utoljára, a lap sajnálatos megszűnése után hosszabb ideig nem volt lehetőség arra, hogy a napi tájékoztatás mellett, hazai időszaki kiadványban, műszaki és természettudományos jellegű közlemények is megjelenhessenek. GYULA BATARI: THE „NOVA POSONIENSIA" AND ITS RELATION TO HISTORY OF TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE We wish to introduce technical and scientific aspects of the weekly paper „Nova Posoniensia" on the occasion of the 300th anniversary — though somewhat late — of the birth of Mátyás Bel (1684—1749) who was a historian, writer and a most outstanding figure of 18th century Hungarian science. „Nova Posoniensia" the latin language periodical of Bel was the first regular periodical in Hungary, which was a weekly published from March 1721 until September 1722 in Pozsony (Bratislava). This paper, besides its news-service, wished to serve the purposes of school education and science popularization by its encyclopaedic contents. It was regulary read aloud in the evangelical secondary school „liceum" and other schools in the country. The monthly supplement of this publication the „Syllabus" summarized the most interesting events of the past month and adverted to the explanation of geographical and historical notions which the editor thought to be unknown. The communications in the paper were mostly published in an arrangement according to towns, reports from the most distant places were to be found at the beginning, then Hungarian reports first of all those of Pozsony were to be found. Communications with technical aspects were published several times e. g. from Drezden they reported on a fire-fighting equipment made in Hamburg which worked very well and was introduced in the presence of the King in March 1722. The King liked this new system equipment so much that he ordered several pieces of it for the different towns of his country to subdue conflagrations so frequent in that period. Communications with scientific, medical, sanitary, meteorological information were also regularly published in the paper. There were often reports on elementary damages. Mátyás Bel discussed often the different scientific associations and academies of Europa in „Nova Posoniensia". The fact that he was member, among others of the London Royal Academy and of the one in Vienna, Berlin, Jena contributed to his information. After the discontinuance of this newspaper there was for a long time no possibility for the publication of technical and scientific communications besides daily information in Hungarian periodicals.
