F. VÉGH: HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTE OF POST-GRADUATE COURSES OF THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY BUDAPEST FROM THE ESTABLISHMENT UNTIL THE LIBERATION Following world war I and the Trianon-peace treaty the social and economical conditions changed in Hungary, so the many-sided post-graduate education of certificated engineers became increasingly important. This necessity was early recognized by the direction and teaching staff of the Joseph Technical University, however, the realization had to be waited for. First, the post-graduate education of engineers in economics was introduced in 1925, lateron the post-graduate education in technological field, the Institute of Post-Graduate Courses was organized. On the occasion of the National Congress of Engineers Professor Géza A. Pattantyús (in 1931) and on the Meeting for Higher Education Professor Győző Mihailich (in 1936) strived for the establishment of this institute. An interdepartmental committee organized at the Technical University elaborated the organizational rules of the Institute what was approved also by the Ministry of Religion and Education on 26. July 1939. Győző Mihailich was nominated to be director of the Institute of Post-Graduate Courses. The first course was announced in spring 1941, yielding great success. The lectures were published by the Institute as text-books giving great impulse to publishing technical books.
