SZŐKEFALVI-NAGY: THE ONE-TIME SMALL ACADEMY Between 1896 and 1941 there existed in Hungary a society called „small Academy". It started from a university table society. It never possessed any authorisation or official assent. Never the less its existence was known, to count among its members ment recognition for several generations and its unofficial activity plaid a great role in Hungarian scientific life. Among its members there were outstanding personalities of Hungarian scientific life, first of all representatives of the natural sciences in a smaller number those of social sciences and the arts. The lectures of the „small Academy" were events of rank. The „small Academy" published several works. All these activities were solely based on monetary contribution of its members.
