TANULMÁNYOK - Károlyi Zsigmond: Huszár Mátyás szerepe a Körösök szabályozásában

THE ROLE OF MATYÂS HUSZÁR IN THE REGULATION OF THE RIVERS KÖRÖS Mátyás H uszá r (1778-1843) the organizer and first leader of the hydrographie survey preceding regulation work (Körös Valley 1818-1823; Danube Valley 1823-1827) had been one of the most prominent engineers of the Hungarian reform era. His co-workers and successors alike had been his pupils: Pál Vásárhelyi, later the leader of the Danube mapping (1827-1835), Sámuel Lányi the leader of the Tisza regulation survey (1832-1846) and others. Mátyás Husz ár performed both pioneering and outstanding work in the domains of geodesy, mapping, hydrometry and hydraulic engineering design. Along with the geodetic survey of the Körös Valley he also surveyed the middle stretch of the recipient Tisza River (from Tokaj to Szeged), and together with the regulation plans of the Körös rivers he also devoted attention to the problem of the Tisza regulation. Although his valuable maps, plans and papers had not been published in print, they were made use of in subsequent works. It could be proved recently that the so-called "Weisz-map" of 1860 contains the results and summation of the surveys performed by Huszár in the Körös and Tisza valleys and those carried out by Lányi concerning the Tlsza survey and mapping.
