anywhere. The theory was characteristic of Diesel's optimistic attitude; however, nothing is known about experiments in this respect and the plan seemes to be unpracticable anyway. The engine gained a quick world-wide recognition and today solutions, enabling the production of 4000 h. p. in one cylinder are known; thus it ^s widely applied in railway and boat towing. The fact that instead of the uncomfort­able, cumbersome solid fuel a liquid fuel of considerably higher calorific value could be used, more easy to store and deliver, greatly contributed to the prevalence of the Diesel engine.
