Lyra’s nebula (1886) and demonstrated the spectral similarity of the nova stars and the planetary nebulae (1892, Illustration No. 2) He proved that pictures taken by the aid of his 260-mm reflector of the stellar nebulae and the extragallaxies were better than the drawings made by using telescopes. He designed the major part his instruments (astrographs, spectrographs) himself and made them in his own shop. He built instruments also for foreign observatories.
