Ihe manufacture was flourishing during the period between ihe end of the seventeenth and the beginning of the eighteenth century. Among the figurai subjects the most important specimens are the Buddhist deities, with bold and sensitive modelling and sense of rhythm. As for the problem of dating it remains difficult although dated pieces ean be found from the sixteenth century onwards. The greatest part of objects is unmarked, and the manufacture continued in the traditional design into the eighteenth century and even later. Our piece also is undated, however the formation is characteristic of the seventeenth century style. L. K.
